Những rủi ro ngày càng tăng do biến đổi khí hậu, thiên tai, mất đa dạng sinh học hoặc đại dịch đòi hỏi phải lập kế hoạch tốt hơn về cách cộng đồng con người có thể thích ứng với các tác động này một cách bền vững. Tưởng tượng về thế giới ngày mai và làm cho nó hiển thị trong ngày hôm nay để các cộng đồng có thể hiểu được sự phức tạp của nó và thảo luận về sự tiến hóa của nó: đây là mục tiêu của các phương pháp mô hình hóa tích hợp như mô hình hóa dựa trên tác nhân, giúp khám phá các quỹ đạo có thể và xác định các nhánh, đặc biệt là các quỹ đạo có thể liên quan đến những rủi ro mới nổi và tính dễ bị tổn thương của người dân. Những cách tiếp cận này đặt ra những thách thức mới trong khoa học máy tính và AI, cũng như trong khoa học xã hội, vì chúng dựa vào việc xây dựng và mô phỏng thế giới nhân tạo quy mô lớn, trong đó hành vi của xã hội loài người và môi trường của chúng được thể hiện một cách chi tiết.

Nhằm triển khai các dự án ở quy mô lớn hơn, ACROSS và SIMPLE muốn tuyển dụng một số lượng cộng tác viên là sinh viên và học viên cao học các ngành khoa học xã hội và hành vi (đặc biệt là Nhân học – Anthropology). Các cộng tác viên sẽ được tham gia dự án, học hỏi các kỹ năng, kiến thức và làm việc trong môi trường quốc tế và thân thiện, được trả lương tuỳ theo khả năng và thời gian làm việc.

ACROSS (Advanced Computational Research On Sustainability Science) is an International Joint Laboratory established by the French Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD)/ UMMISCO, Thuy Loi University (TLU), Hanoi Architectural University (HAU) and Toulouse Computer Science Research Institute (IRIT) to design modeling and simulation tools in support of a scientific approach to sustainability in the management of irrigation systems in Vietnam.

ACROSS promotes a problem-oriented methodology to design these models and organize the contributions of scientists, students, and practitioners in several case studies (Bac Hung Hai in the Red River Delta and Duc Hoa in the Mekong Delta). Its research activities are also applied in different projects of various sectors, spanning from epidemiology to urban planning, waste management or biodiversity protection.

SIMPLE – Sustainable Issues Metaverse for building Participatory Learning Environments, a project co-funded by the European Union, explores the potential of virtual reality universes to raise awareness on environmental issues (climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution, etc.) among 12-18-year-olds in 4 ASEAN countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Laos PDR, and Cambodia).

The aim is to design a set of educational and entertaining virtual universes, each dedicated to a particular issue, representing a given case study (climate change in the Mekong Delta, the role of national parks in biodiversity protection in Thailand, etc.), and built on rigorous scientific models capable of providing realistic evolution scenarios.

The methodology followed is bottom-up, giving priority to the construction of universes that can be used in the classroom to enable children to experiment with sustainability solutions in a playful, active, and controlled way.
